Getting Started
So you’ve had a wander around our website, and you reckon that you’d like to give this CrossFit ‘thing’ a go. Good choice.
Below you will find all the information you need to get started with CrossFit and Adult Gymnastics, as well as how to use our online booking system. Make sure you have also looked through our Frequently Asked Questions page, too.
Getting started with CrossFit
Ahead of time
- Make sure that you have read the section on the website about our class progressions, especially CrossFit Level 1
- Read this blog post on the risks associated with CrossFit
- Create an account on our online booking system (see below for details). There is one glitch in the system. If , during the account creation service, you opt to receive no emails from us, if you book a PT session, the trainer isn’t notified and does not know to show up.
- Make sure that you read our Health Commitment Statement (it shows up when you create an online account)
- Book and pay for your first Level 1 class using the online scheduling system. Note: you can start with any of the first five Level 1 sessions in any order that you like!
- Find a little notebook that you can use to record your training progress (this is important!)
If that isn’t enough, you may want to read some advice from more experienced crossfitters with some hints about what to expect, stuff to buy if you want to, training ideas, and the effect Crossfit can have on your life:
Advice for Crossfit newbies, by Stephanie Bales

Stuff to buy (if you feel like it):
On the day of your first session
- We recommend regular workout clothes (shorts, t-shirts) as long as they allow a full range of movement. Try and bring some warm clothes to wrap up in after the session finishes.
- Shoes: we recommend a training shoe with as little padding on the sole as possible i.e., running shoes are not recommended! A tennis or soccer trainer, Converse All-Stars and most of the Inov-8 f-lite series are good.
- If you are carrying an injury (current or previous) make sure that you make the coach aware of this before the session starts.
- We recommend that you bring along a water bottle to drink from during the session
- Bring your notebook!
After the session
- Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids (ideally water) after the session
- It is a good idea to eat fairly shortly after the workout. Make this a protein rich meal to aid recovery
- Get plenty of sleep
- If this was one of your first few sessions, allow yourself a couple of days rest before your next session while your body recovers; try to not to rush into more training if you are very sore
- Let us know you how got on. We love feedback!

The discount covers both front line personnel, as well as those in staff positions.
To claim your discount, please email Steven with your name and some proof of membership BEFORE your purchase. He will work some magic on your account to compel the system to apply your discount.

Still have questions? Read on.
If, having read everything on this site (including our Frequently Asked Questions page) and the CrossFit HQ you’d still like to chat about whether this system is for you or perhaps have some personal questions, please book into for a Personal Training session.
Due to our training schedule, we aren’t able to deal with unscheduled ‘drop ins’; when our facility is open, we need to focus on our clients. If you come in without a booking for a class or other appointment, we will politely and respectfully ask you to leave.
