CrossFit London Beginners

CrossFit London Beginners

At CrossFit London we offer a number of paths to getting started with CrossFit.

Beginners classes

These are 90mins sessions running 1200-1330 on Saturday and 1100-1230 on Sunday morning. Typically you will find yourself training with three to five other people and supported by a CrossFit London coach.

In each session we will cover squatting technique before moving on to presses and deadlifts. We will also cover the basics of olympic lifting, kettlebell work, and some gymnastics elements. The aims of the sessions are to ensure that:

  • Your technique is solid and safe
  • You have had some exposure to the ‘intesity’ of CrossFit exercises
  • You are comfortable with the scaling that you may require for some of the exercises e.g. pull-ups, ring dips, handstand push-ups

At the end of the session the coach will complete a Beginners Skills Log for you, details which movements you covered during the session, and any notes relating to areas for continued improvement. You should bring this log with your to each subsequent beginners session.

Most people new to CrossFit will attend three beginners sessions before starting with the main classes. A single session pass to a beginners class is £20, with three sessions available for £50.

Beginners personal training

These are 60min sessions running throughout the week as part of CrossFit London’s Personal Training schedule. The sessions are 1-to-1 with a CrossFit London coach and cover the same syllabus as the beginners classes above.

These sessions have the advantage over the classes of:

  • Taking place at a date and time of your choosing, throughout the week
  • Being able to 1-on-1 with a CrossFit London coach

A single CrossFit Beginners Personal Training session is £50 with three sessions available for £90.

The CrossFit London i-Course

The i-Course is a one day workshop that takes your through all of the fundamental CrossFit movements. This includes the barbells movements, olympic lifts, kettlebells, and wide range of gymnastic skills.

All i-Course delegates receive a copy of the 70+ page CrossFit London Elite Fitness Manual ebook which covers all of the moves and progressions covered during the day.

Places on the CrossFit London i-Course are available for £100, with discounts available for members of the armed forces, emergency services and full-time students.

Health & Safety

CrossFit is deliberately, and by design, a real world, functional fitness programme with ‘nowt taken out’. By this we mean that some of the exercises and techniques that we use can be dangerous if performed incorrectly or with poor technique. This is why we spend a great deal of time and energy on drilling technique and skills through the beginners programmes. To this end, our safety record is very good – a fact you can check by reading through our online Health and Safety logs.

This sort of exercise regiem is not without risk, though. You can – and probably should – expect to pick up some bumps and bruises along the way. Our coaches and clients discuss this aspect of CrossFit training in the following article on the website.

We are most certainly NOT preaching “no pain, no gain”. However, if the idea of picking up a few “owies” along the way really turns you off, then CrossFit may not be the right programme for you.
